Camellia Grafts

Both of these were grafted from bushes on the USA campus. This is the first year either has bloomed. Top is Kumagaya and bottom is Tiffany. I'm SO excited.

Was Hibiscus

Lydia remarked that she couldn't see the painting in enough detail, so I'm posting it. And the drawing, too, whilst I'm at it.

Christmas Eve

Last night we met Nick, Amy, Rob, & Sid at their hotel room in Mobile. They are staying there for a few days this holiday at the Battle House in the Governor's Suite. How many hotel rooms in Mobile have a grand piano, a pool table, an ice machine, a bar, and art by me?

Y'knnnnooooow....

It just really annoys me when someone complains that there's not enough to DO in Mobile. I feel like the white (red?) queen sometimes in that I have to run as fast as I can just to stay in one place.

New Day, New Exhibit

I wonder if non-art types know just how much traveling is involved with art biz. Even a part-timer like me is always dropping things off and picking them up. That drawing that got in the Auburn show was at Michael's Downtown Cafe and had to be swapped for another before being shipped off. Next Monday I'll go pick up my work from the WGAS show at the USA library gallery and take them, a few days later, to the new Semmes Library where a new show is being organized by the ever-charming Mary Rodning. It's got to the point I need a chart to remind me where all my stuff is. Imagine what it must be like for a "real" professional.

Art Goes On...

Recently I made the mistake of entering an out-of-town exhibition, something I had successfully avoided for decades. I thought if a piece was accepted, I would drive it up to Auburn and then pick it up at Space 301 in Mobile when it came there. But instead it turned out that I had to pack it for shipping anyway so that it could be sent to Mobile, and back to Auburn, and back to Mobile.

I contacted Lee Hoffman for advice because I knew that he had much experience in shipping work. He very graciously offered to give me two of his crates. I really felt like a part of Art History painting over his name and painting on mine.

The drawing that got in is a color pencil done from a photograph that David Cullwell took. (Thanks for the permission, DC!) It is entitled - what else? - David's Cactus. The exhibition is called Drawing on Alabama. Coming soon to a gallery near you. Or in the spring anyway.

I Am Assimilated

In addition to my "regular" web site, I thought it might be fun to have a blog and talk about what's going on (mostly art-related) in my life. Can't imagine who would be interested, but you never know. I have enjoyed other people's, so here goes....
